....and I'm not talking about some historical artifact or something. This weekend is a rare thing in that I have absolutely nothing that I have to do. A weekend where I don't have at least one thing planned is very rare and the timing couldn't be better as the next three weeks are going to be crazy (and of course I'll blog more on that later).
So what plans do I have? Well, I'm going with my mom to visit dad today. He's adjusted well to the nursing home and is doing good. Then tonight I am participating in my first-ever live draft for a fantasy football league. This is one of the things I do that my wife thinks is terribly geeky, but I'm a fantasy sports nut. I play football, baseball, basketball, and hockey every year, each to a varying degree. Since three of those seasons overlap, its not unusual for me to have four or five teams going at once. However, I've never actually participated in a live draft, as I am always busy, but this one is timed just right. While I'm doing that I will also be watching the Steelers preseason game against Minnesota. It just might be football overload, but I'm ready for the season to start.
Sunday there's nothing on tap, but I imagine I'll do something with Lori and maybe try to finish up one of the books I'm reading. I've spent more time in the evenings lately watching the Olympics than reading, but I need to get back on track because Monday is the start of a crazy three weeks.

Does sound like a good weekend! What books are you reading these days? Hope the visit with your dad is a good one!
If you look just below my profile on the right hand side of my blog you will see section titled What I'm Currently Reading. The two Zeb Vance books are for work and the other two are just things I'm reading for the heck of it.
Visit with dad went well. It wasn't his sharpest day, but certainly not a bad day either.
Aaah, I didn't make it down that far. :)
I kind of miss my old history classes...........toyed with taking a MALS class at WF this year, but not sure I'll be able to work it with the schedule.
How far away is your dad?
My dad is about 45 minutes away, in Hampstead. He had been living in an assisted living facility here in Jacksonville. About five months ago he was taken to the hospital in Wilmington where he had two brain surgeries (a week and a half apart) to remove blod clots from his brain. They were putting pressure on his brain, which was causing some major problems. Then, because he's not a good patient at all, they had to do an emergency surgery to patch a hole in his stomach after he decided to rip his feeding tube out (he also ripped a catheter out if you can believe that). Anyway, when they finally let him out of the hospital he had to go to a nursing home for rehab and therapy. Since there really are no good ones in Jacksonville, mom put him in the one in Hampstead which is very nice and was highly recommended. He's recovered remarkably well, but it appears that the remainder of his days will be in the nursing home, as he now needs more care than when he was in assisted living. He's a tough old dude at 71, but he does have Alzheimer's and Parkinson's so having him there is probably the best option.
Dude! You have your fantasy football and Allen is trying to get me into wargaming. What is this world coming to?
I've been playing fantasy football since before I ever met you. So just hush!
