One More Thing Off My List

I wrote the review for Wolf of the Deep today and submitted it to Military Collector and Historian Magazine. I'm waiting for a reply from the editor. At any rate, that's one more thing I can check off my "To Do" list. Now I'm on to working on a couple of encyclopedia entries on War of 1812 subjects, Otway Burns and Johnston Blakeley. The fun never ends!

I've been meaning to read more about Otway Burns. I remember seeing his grave in Beaufort and hearing his name in 8th grade NC History but can't remember much more than that. I was processing a collection in the University Archives and turns out, the University was given Otway Burns' desk. I inquired where it's at and it is currently in the office of the big honcho who runs the Washington Duke Inn. On a more random note, I was in Philly the other week visiting a friend of mine from UNCW and we went to Laurel Hil Cemetery. I got a few pictures of the lone Confederate who's buried there. I think he must have married a local girl b/c he died after the War. It was weird to see Union soldiers when I'm so used to seeing Johnny Rebs. I've had the opportunity recently to work with Civil War related documents, both Union and Confederate. Once I finish my current project, I've been asked to process the papers of Alexander Stephens. I guess I'll become more of a Civil War scholar than I ever thought I would! Good luck with the rest of your writing!
